The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is accepting public comments on proposed redesigns for Fireweed Lane between Spenard Road and the Seward Highway. The agency will host an open house June 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Nave, 3502 Spenard Road.

The project would rehabilitate the corridor to improve safety, update roadway and sidewalk designs to current standards, and address business access along the route. Anchorage reclassified Fireweed Lane as a collector road in January 2026. The project team has refined several design alternatives under federal environmental review and will present options at the meeting.

Residents can review materials and submit comments at the open house, online at www.FireweedLane.com, or in writing. Meeting materials will be posted to the website June 2.

The project is a joint effort between the state transportation department and the Municipality of Anchorage. Federal environmental review is being conducted under a 2023 agreement between the state and the Federal Highway Administration.
