The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is accepting public comments through May 5, 2026, on plans to resurface six community roads in Healy.

The project would resurface Coal Street, Healy School Road, Hilltop Road, Lignite Road, Ranch Avenue and Suntrana Avenue. Work includes vegetation clearing, new signage and striping, drainage improvements, and intersection upgrades. The state says the project will improve road performance and reduce annual maintenance costs.

Construction is planned for 2027-2028. The department is currently working on design concepts, engineering studies, and environmental reviews.

The state is requesting information about resources in the project area that could be affected, including historic properties, archaeological sites, wetlands, and floodplains. Three material sites will be used: Antler Creek Pit, Pit NO. 27, and Panguingue Pit.

After the comment period closes, the department will continue environmental studies and finalize engineering designs before construction begins.
