The Alaska Department of Natural Resources is accepting public comments through May 8 on a permit application for two seasonal salmon monitoring camps in the Bristol Bay region.

The Bristol Bay Science and Research Institute has applied for a five-year permit to operate fish weirs and field camps on Klutuspak Creek and the Stuyahok River. The camps would support salmon migration monitoring in collaboration with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game from May through September each year, with year-round equipment storage.

The Klutuspak Creek site sits about 1.5 miles from where the creek meets the Nushagak River. The camp would include a canvas tent with wooden floor, tent platforms, a storage shed, a pit privy, and a 75-foot weir. The Stuyahok River site, located about three-quarters of a mile from the confluence with the Mulchatna River, would have similar facilities plus a 100-foot weir.

The permit would run from May 1, 2026, through April 30, 2031.
