The Alaska Department of Natural Resources is accepting public comments through May 15 on a trapping cabin permit application for land about three miles southeast of Big River Lakes in the Redoubt Bay Critical Habitat Area.

Joel Brewer has applied for a 10-year permit to use an existing 10-foot by 12-foot cabin along his established trapline during trapping season from November through March. The state posted the cabin as trespassing in 2019. If approved, the permit would run from June 1, 2026, through May 31, 2036.

The cabin sits in Section 35, Township 8 North, Range 17 West, Seward Meridian. The Southcentral Regional Land Office is reviewing the application under state law governing trapping cabin permits.

Written comments must reach the Division of Mining, Land and Water at the Southcentral Regional Land Office, 550 W. 7th Ave., Suite 900C, Anchorage, AK 99501-3577 by 5:00 p.m. on May 15. The public can also email comments to [email protected].
