The state Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development has approved a 55-year renewal of the public airport lease in South Naknek, extending the agreement with the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities.

The renewal extends the original lease from 1996 and waives fair market value requirements because the airport serves a public purpose. The South Naknek Village Council approved the renewal on April 1, 2026. The public has until 5:00 p.m. on May 28, 2026, to submit comments.

The Municipal Lands Trustee manages the property on behalf of a future city in South Naknek. The renewal updates contact information in the lease and continues the state's use of the land for airport operations.

The approval becomes final 30 days after publication unless modified based on public comments.
