The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities will restrict truck weights on most Central Region roads starting Monday, May 11, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. to protect pavement during spring thaw.

The restrictions apply to state roads from Homer and Seward north to Mile 118 on the Glenn Highway and Mile 163 on the Parks Highway, plus the Dillingham and Bethel road systems. Most paved roads will be limited to 75 percent of legal axle weight, while gravel roads drop to 50 percent.

Major highways including the Glenn, Parks, and portions of the Sterling and Seward highways will remain at 100 percent of legal weight with no overload permits allowed. Some secondary roads face stricter limits. Old Seward Spur in Anchorage and several Wasilla roads including Big Lake Road, Hollywood Road, and Vine Road will be restricted to 50 percent of legal weight.

The restrictions protect roads from damage as warming temperatures soften pavement and base materials. The department monitors conditions closely and will adjust restrictions as needed.
