The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities will impose seasonal weight restrictions on highways across the Northern Region starting Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 8:00 a.m.

The restrictions apply to all vehicles over 10,000 pounds and vary by road condition. The Parks Highway from Cantwell to Fairbanks and most state roads in the Fairbanks North Star Borough will allow 100 percent of legal axle loads. The Richardson Highway from Valdez to Johnson Road, Glenn Highway from the regional boundary to Glennallen, Alaska Highway from the Canadian border to Delta, and Tok Cutoff will be restricted to 85 percent of legal loads.

Roads in Healy, along with Power Creek Road, Whitshed Road, and Orca Road in Cordova, the Northway Road Taylor Highway, Edgerton Highway, Lake Louise Road, and numerous roads in Delta and Fairbanks will be limited to 75 percent of legal loads. The Denali Highway, Elliott Highway from Livengood to Manley, Nabesna Road, McCarthy Road, and many roads in Delta and Fairbanks will face the strictest limits at 50 percent of legal loads.

The Elliott Highway from mile 0 to 72 and the Dalton Highway from mile 0 to 414 will have no seasonal restrictions. Long combination vehicles of 90 feet or more with at least two trailers receive special allowances on certain routes.

The department monitors weather and pavement conditions and will adjust restrictions as needed. The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement division will enforce the limits.
