The Valdez Fire Department knocked down a house fire on Gulkana Street late April 27. No one was hurt.

The fire broke out in the Alpine Woods neighborhood. Firefighters kept the flames from spreading to other structures, according to a city news release.

The city has not said what caused the fire or how much damage it did. Officials have not identified who lives at the home or whether anyone was inside when the fire started.

No one had to evacuate. The fire did not threaten neighboring homes.

Valdez, a city of 3,900 at the northeast tip of Prince William Sound, sits 300 road miles east of Anchorage. The department responded to another house fire in March 2023 on Klutina Street that destroyed a home.

The city has not said when it will release more information about what started the fire.
