The Alaska Department of Fish and Game is accepting public comment on salmon hatchery operations in Prince William Sound and the Copper River region at a meeting May 6 in Cordova.

The Prince William Sound/Copper River Regional Planning Team will review hatchery management plans, consider two permit changes, and discuss the pink and chum salmon moratorium. The team advises the fish and game commissioner on the state's salmon enhancement program.

The meeting starts at 10:00 a.m. at the Cordova Center and will be available by Zoom. The public can attend in person or online.

The planning team includes three state biologists and three fishing industry representatives. The group will also hear updates on the Prince William Sound Comprehensive Salmon Plan.

Hatcheries in Prince William Sound release millions of salmon fry each year to supplement wild runs. The permit changes under review would alter how specific facilities operate, though the notice does not detail what modifications are proposed.
