The Alaska Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault is accepting public comments through June 3 on its draft plan for distributing federal grant money to fight domestic violence and sexual assault across the state.

The plan covers fiscal years 2026 through 2029 and guides how Alaska will spend STOP grant funds from the U.S. Department of Justice. STOP stands for Services, Training, Officers, and Prosecutors. The money pays for training on domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and dating violence for courts, law enforcement, and prosecutors. It also strengthens victim services.

Federal law requires the state to divide the money among specific groups: law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, courts, and victim service providers.

The council wants input on training and service priorities for these groups statewide. The 30-day comment period runs from May 4 through close of business on June 3.

The council operates under the Alaska Department of Public Safety. After the comment period closes, the council will finalize the plan and submit it to the federal Office on Violence Against Women.
