The Alaska Department of Natural Resources is accepting public comments through May 6 on a proposal to install a seasonal commercial float and viewing platform at Eldred Rock Lighthouse in Lynn Canal.

Fairweather Marine Services LLC has applied for a five-year permit to moor a 30-by-10-foot float, gangway, and viewing platform at the historic lighthouse site, located about 20 miles southeast of Haines. The company would use the structures from May through September each year for commercial purposes.

The float would be anchored to state-owned submerged land with steel chains and four 7,500-pound concrete blocks. A 70-foot aluminum gangway would connect the float to a 20-by-9-foot viewing platform that spans the tideland and extends into the uplands. The platform would be bolted to an existing concrete ramp.

The structures would occupy about 0.02 acres of state tide and submerged land near the lighthouse at coordinates 58.9714°N, 135.2213°W.

If approved, the permit would run from May 1, 2026, through September 31, 2031.
