State seeks bids for $2.5M-$5M Atwood Building electrical overhaul

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is accepting bids through June 3 for a major electrical system replacement at the Atwood Building in downtown Anchorage. The project will replace two electrical services, main distribution switchboards, and automatic transfer switches in the state office building at 550 West 7th Avenue.

The state estimates the work will cost between $2.5 million and $5 million, with substantial completion required by December 15, 2027. The project also includes construction of a new electrical room, removal of hazardous materials, and repairs to interior finishes.

Bids are due by 2:00 p.m. on June 3, 2026 at 4111 Aviation Avenue in Anchorage. A non-mandatory pre-bid site visit will be held at 10:00 a.m. on May 28, 2026 in the front lobby of the Atwood Building.

Contractors can download bidding documents at no charge from the state's online bidding service at https://www.bidx.com/ak/lettings. Companies must register through the DOT&PF website or with the Central Region Plans Room for their bids to be accepted.
