The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is accepting bids through May 20 for a major reconstruction of the Seward Highway railroad crossing at milepost 14 near Anchorage.

The project will rebuild the highway crossing to accommodate the Alaska Railroad Corporation's plan to raise the railroad grade at that location. The state estimates the work will cost between $20 million and $30 million.

The project includes grading, drainage improvements, a mechanically stabilized earth wall, bridge work, paving, signing, and striping. The contractor must complete all work by September 30, 2027.

Bids are due by 2:00 p.m. on May 20, 2026, at the department's Central Region office at 4111 Aviation Avenue in Anchorage.

Companies can download bidding documents at no charge from the state's online bidding service at https://www.bidx.com/ak/lettings. Contractors must register as plan holders through the department's website or with the Central Region Plans Room, or their bids may not be accepted. Paper copies of bidding documents are available for $100 per set from the Central Region Plans Room.
