Southeast Alaska Parks Board seeks new members to fill vacant seats

The Alaska State Parks Southeast Region Citizens Advisory Board is recruiting new members to fill multiple vacant seats on the panel that advises state officials on park management across Southeast Alaska. The board holds its next meeting May 13, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.

The regional board was formed in March 2025 to replace prior advisory boards for Juneau and Ketchikan, along with a Sitka board that dissolved in 2015. The board now includes representation from Ketchikan, Wrangell, Sitka, Juneau, and Haines. Current vacancies include one Juneau seat and one Wrangell seat, with Kim Wickman serving as the sole Wrangell representative.

The advisory board provides non-binding feedback to the Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation on planning, management, and operations of state park units throughout the region. Members help address recreational opportunities and user conflicts while supporting the Alaska State Parks mission.

The May 13 meeting will cover area updates from Ketchikan, Sitka, Wrangell, Juneau, and Haines, along with discussion of the Pavlof Harbor State Marine Park. The board will also confirm its yearly meeting schedule, which includes a break from June through August.
