The Anchorage Election Commission postponed reviewing its procedural manual until after the April 23 election, citing lack of quorum and staff capacity during the busy election season.

Only two of the commission's four members showed up to Thursday's work session.

"Ralph, it's just you and I and I'm really uncomfortable doing this without the other two, shorthanded," Commissioner Nolan said.

The commission had planned to review and potentially revise its Election Commission Manual, which governs how it operates.

"I think at this point our request would be to go with this manual this year and work on it after the election," Nolan said. "I don't think that the team has the capability of more meetings at this point because we are working on temporary address schedule."

Nolan asked for better communication to prevent future attendance problems. She requested that reminder emails be sent several days before meetings.

"Then I'm going to make a command decision that we postpone this until our main meeting," Nolan said, referring to the commission's next regular meeting after the election.

The decision frees election staff to focus on the upcoming municipal election. Military and overseas ballots go out March 2. Domestic ballots follow March 17.
