Election Commission Meeting
video • Alaska News
Go ahead and call this meeting to order. Get us recording. Yeah, okay. My name is Katie Nolan. I'm the chair of the Election Commission.
Um, beside me is Ralph Weir.
Um, we do not have minutes of the previous meeting. Uh, any disclosures?
So we're just going to meet in a work session, so we're not really going to follow the agenda. Okay. Um, you want me to prepare? We're just I was just gonna say who's just— who's present, Ralph and Katie, and, and then we can go on to the business. Okay, so business, election update.
Election is—. Yep, so pretty brief today since I did a more thorough update last month. So right now our website has the order of the proposition text as well as the numbers, and we made live our sample ballot map. So voters can search their address, click on the ballot style for what they'll be mailed, um, so that they can take a look at what their ballot will look like.
Ballots have—. I'm sorry, where do they get access to that? That's on our website. So muni.org/elections, and I believe it's on the I Want To, and I think it's See What's on My Ballot, and then that should bring them to the sample ballot map.
We sent the ballots to the printers. The military and overseas are scheduled to be mailed out on March 2nd, so next Monday. The rest of the, like, the domestic will be mailed out on March 17th. Who mails out? You mail out or the printer?
The printers.
And then logic and accuracy testing is on March 5th at 10 AM here at the Election Center. We will be testing the tabulation and scanning system. And commission members are— may attend that? Yeah, it's open to the public, so anybody can come. I think Amy did send out a reminder in her email because we typically would like the commission to be there, but it's open to the public, so anybody can come and watch.
So that'll be at 10 AM on March 5th. March 8th is the voter registration deadline. Drop boxes will be deployed on March 11th, 12th, and will be open on the 17th for voters to drop off their ballots. Vote centers will be open starting March 31st. We, uh, the hours and locations can also be found on our website.
And if voters will be traveling during the election, as always, they can apply to vote at a temporary address by email, by fax, or or Secure Document Portal. And that's my update. Thank you. And Election Commission Manual, um, as we don't have a quorum, how would you like to handle this part? Um, I think if you have identified areas that you want changed, I think you can just let me know and we can incorporate them into a tracked changes document and we can just move this to unfinished business at the next meeting.
And then it'll be in tracked changes for you guys to review and make motions on at the next meeting. Ralph, it's just you and I and I'm really uncomfortable doing this without the other two, shorthanded. How do you feel about it? Um, it's somewhat my fault. I have not yet view the guide.
And so I'm not prepared today to discuss any changes. Okay. And I think we need to work more on communication, um, if that's where it fell down with the missing members. Can we work on perhaps getting a reminder email out several days before meetings? Is that possible to put on the calendar?
Um, the other thing that I'd suggest is, uh, can we go ahead and schedule a meeting for next week where we can go over this? Uh, that gives us time to get public notice in and hopefully have our other two members here so that we can discuss this and still get it going before this election. Or would it be better to wait until after we get through this election and work on this portion of it this summer? I think at this point our request would be to go with this manual this year and work on it after the election. I don't think that the team has the capability of, of more meetings at this point because we are working on temporary address schedule.
Yeah, so we will, uh, we would ask that if we can postpone this to after April. Then I'm going to make a command decision that we postpone this until our main meeting. But meanwhile, it would be appreciated if we can get the notice week before meetings again to everyone, just to make sure that we're all keeping this stuff, especially as it gets busy in the summertime. And the middle of the election season, so you guys are overjoyed. Is that fair with you, bro?
Yes, it is. And can you refresh my recollection? What is the date of the public hearing? Was that 23rd? April 23rd.
So there's a work session from 2 to 4, and then you have a quick, super quick break, and then 5 to finish is the actual session. And at the work session, we'll be going through everything so that we are aware before we get into the actual meeting, and all of that will be, you know, public as well.
All right, this is going to be a very, very short meeting. Yay! You can enjoy the sunshine. With that one, I'm going to adjourn unless we have anything we've missed from anyone that would like to contribute. I'm looking over that direction.
Um, not for me. You're happy, huh? If you're happy, I'm happy. All right, thank you so much. Thank you.
Thank you. I'm sorry, guys.
