Alaska Legislature seeks outside auditor for financial statements

The Alaska Legislative Affairs Agency is accepting proposals through June 30 for an independent auditor to review the Legislature's own financial statements for fiscal years 2026 and 2027.

The audit will cover the Legislative Affairs Agency, Legislative Budget and Audit Committee, Office of Victims' Rights, and Office of the Ombudsman. The contract includes audits of two fiscal years plus up to three one-year renewal options.

The Legislative Branch follows its own procurement procedures under AS 36.30.020. The Division of Legislative Audit typically reviews the State of Alaska's basic financial statements and federal compliance, but this request seeks an outside firm to examine the Legislature's own accounts.

Proposals must arrive by noon Alaska time on June 30, 2026. The agency plans to award the contract by July 27. Firms must hold current registration with the Alaska State Board of Public Accountancy and maintain a peer review rating of pass.

The audit will examine financial statements for the fiscal year running July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. Field work will take place in Juneau. The final report for fiscal 2026 must be completed by January 31, 2027.

JC Kestel, procurement manager for the Legislative Affairs Agency, is handling the solicitation. Interested firms must register with Kestel to receive any amendments to the request. Questions about the proposal are due by June 12.
