State Seeks Public Input on Native Allotment Land Reconveyance Near Nenana

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources is accepting public comments through June 4 on a preliminary decision to return 143.83 acres of state land to the federal government for conveyance to a Native allotment applicant. The parcel sits about 12 miles east of Nenana along the south bank of the Tanana River.

The state erroneously received the land and now proposes to reconvey it to the United States for transfer to the original Native allotment claimant. The parcel includes portions of Section 11, Township 4 South, Range 6 West, Fairbanks Meridian, based on surveys approved in 1921 and 2005.

Written comments must reach the Division of Mining, Land and Water by 3:00 PM on June 4, 2026. Only people who submit timely comments during this period will be eligible to appeal the final decision.

If no significant changes are required, the preliminary decision will become the final decision without additional public notice. The department will send copies of the final decision to everyone who submitted comments.
