The Alaska Department of Natural Resources is accepting public comments through May 11 on a proposed amendment to a placer mining operation on Crooked Creek near Central. Dean Willis has applied to extend mechanical placer mining activities on state lands in the Circle Mining District through December 31, 2029.

The amendment covers mining operations across sections of Township 9 North, Range 13 East in the Fairbanks Meridian. The application includes requests for a Miscellaneous Land Use Permit, an Approved Plan of Operations, and Reclamation Plan Approval. Cross-country travel on state lands outside the mining locations may also be authorized.

The state will review the application and may issue an authorization with conditions. The proposed activity could be modified during the review process.

Written comments must be received by 5:00 p.m. Alaska Standard Time on May 11, 2026. Submit comments to the Division of Mining, Land and Water at the Fairbanks Mine Permitting Office, 3700 Airport Way, Fairbanks, Alaska 99709. Comments can also be emailed to [email protected].
