The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation is accepting public comments through May 8 on a renewed oil spill prevention and response plan for a fuel storage facility in Craig.

Petro 49, Inc. operates a bulk fuel plant at 110 J.T. Brown Street in Craig that stores 1.4 million gallons of diesel, gasoline, and aviation fuel. The company has applied to renew its state-required Oil Discharge Prevention and Contingency Plan, which outlines how the facility would prevent and respond to a fuel spill.

The plan must demonstrate that Petro 49 has adequate resources to respond to a realistic maximum discharge from the facility. The Craig plant has a combined storage capacity of 33,217 barrels of petroleum products.

The public comment period runs from April 8 through 11:59 p.m. on May 8, 2026. Residents in the affected area or the Craig city government may request a public hearing by writing to the department before April 23. The department will hold a hearing if it determines good cause exists.

The state assigns each facility a contingency plan number for tracking purposes. The Craig facility is designated 26-CP-5004.
