The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is accepting public comments through May 20 on a proposal to extend a private aircraft hangar lease at Birchwood Airport for five more years.

The lease covers approximately 22,500 square feet at Lot 17, Block 100, where Jessie Laub-Elkins operates and maintains a private aircraft hangar. The extension would allow continued use for aircraft storage, maintenance, tiedowns for aircraft owned by the lessee, and related vehicle parking. Annual rent is $3,240 plus associated fees.

The department is processing the application under Alaska Statute 02.15.090(c), which allows lease extensions without competitive bidding. Written comments must be received by 4:30 p.m. on May 20, 2026. The department will review all comments before deciding whether to approve the extension.

Only people who submit written comments by the deadline will receive notification of the department's decision. Comments must include a return address.
